WALL REQUIREMENTS AND WHAT TO AVOID WHEN INSTALLING WALLPAPER

Transform your space with wallpaper by ensuring proper wall preparation for smooth application and lasting results.

Installing wallpaper can be a transformative way to refresh your space, but achieving the best results requires careful preparation of your walls. To ensure a smooth application and long-lasting results, follow these guidelines on wall requirements and avoid common pitfalls.

GUIDELINES

By adhering to these guidelines and avoiding common pitfalls, you can ensure a successful wallpaper installation that enhances the beauty and functionality of your space. Proper wall preparation is key to achieving a flawless finish that will look great for years to come.

PAINTING YOUR WALLS

For a successful wallpaper installation, your walls should be properly painted and cured. If your wall has been recently painted, it needs to dry thoroughly before applying wallpaper or wall decals. Generally, you should wait 4-6 weeks after painting to allow the paint to fully cure. For walls painted with low VOC (volatile organic compounds) paints, it’s crucial to wash the wall with rubbing alcohol before applying wallpaper, murals, or wall decals to ensure optimal adhesion.

CLEANING YOUR WALLS

Your wall needs to be in excellent condition for the best results. This means no cracking paint, humidity spots, stains, or dust. If you’re unsure about the type of paint or condition of your wall, a good practice is to wash the wall with multi-surface soap and then let dry before installing. This will help create a clean, smooth surface for your wallpaper to adhere to.

TEXTURED OR DAMAGED WALLS

Removable peel and stick wallpapers are designed for smooth, undamaged painted walls. They are not suitable for textured or damaged surfaces. For walls with light texture, our pre-pasted wallpaper and murals can be a suitable option. However, ensure the texture is not too pronounced, as excessive texture can affect the wallpaper’s adhesion and appearance.

EXTREME TEMPERATURE & HUMIDITY

Peel and stick wallpaper performs best in stable environments with temperatures between 55°F and 80°F. Drastic changes in temperature or humidity can negatively impact the long-term performance of the wallpaper. While peel and stick wallpaper can be used in areas like bathrooms, laundry rooms, and kitchens with proper ventilation (such as fans), extreme humidity—such as that found in restaurant kitchens or areas behind mechanical equipment—should be avoided.

COVERING OLD WALLPAPER

Avoid using new wallpaper to cover old wallpaper. Peel and stick wallpapers and wall decals are designed to adhere directly to painted walls. Applying them over old wallpaper can cause the new material to fall off or bubble up. Ensure your wall is clean, smooth, and free of previous wallpaper before installation.

ATTACHING OBJECTS TO WALLPAPER

Any objects you wish to hang, such as picture frames, shelves, or decor, should be physically attached to the wall using nails or screws. Do not use glue or double-sided tape on wallpaper, as this can cause the wallpaper and the attached objects to fall off.

WHY YOU SHOULD ORDER WALLPAPER SAMPLES

Choosing the right wallpaper can transform your space, but we understand that committing to a full roll can be daunting. That’s why we offer wallpaper samples! Here are a few reasons why ordering a sample is a smart choice:

Visualize in Your Space: A sample allows you to see how the design looks in your own environment. Lighting, furniture, and color palettes can all affect how a wallpaper appears, and a sample gives you a true sense of its impact.

Quality Assurance: Our samples let you feel the texture and quality of our materials firsthand. We pride ourselves on using top-notch materials, and seeing (and touching) them up close ensures you’re making a sound investment.

Perfect Color Match: Colors can vary based on lighting and surroundings. A sample helps you determine if the hue complements your existing decor, making it easier to envision your finished space.

Design Confidence: Trying a sample can alleviate any doubts about your choice. You can test it out on your walls, ensuring it fits your style and aesthetic before making a larger purchase.

By ordering a sample, you take a confident step towards creating a space you’ll love. We’re excited to help you bring your vision to life!
